Welcome to Instant Drum Lessons!

If this is your first time here, let me set you up with a little intel
on who we are and what we're about...

First off, we're real people - just like you. My name is Mike Purvis,
and your instructor at IDL is Paul Donahue. I have been a drum
enthusiast for a good long time - but I'm certainly no guru.

I actually run an online businesses (completely unrelated to drumming),
and work out of my home - so I have lots of time to play on the kit. I
don't even play in a band right now, but man I live to jam along to a
groove (I'm a "James Brown" fan myself...)

But here's the point...

You don't need the desire to be a rock star to want to play the
drums...
you've just got to want to play - that's it!

Now Paul on the other hand... well, he is a Master of his trade and has
a resume to prove it (Paul is my instructor). I've had a few
instructors - but never saw any where near the level of progress as I
did when I started taking lessons from Paul.

I'm sure you know the drill - we've all had teachers in school we
learned a lot from, no doubt. But there were also those that taught all
day and still left you walking away empty! I digress... so anyway...

So of course working online all day, I would stray to some drumming
related stuff (yep, it's true) - but there were always some core issues
that drove me nuts!

The drumming sites were mostly just a jumble of random parts and pieces
- no real layout or logical sequence to build on. I guess that's to be
expected from a lot of the free services out there - but it was the
same with most of the paid services too!

Not only than, but all of the stuff that seemed like it might be worth
looking at was only available in a physical package (like DVD's), and I
hate waiting for stuff to come in the mail - I'm an instant
gratification person through and through.

Of course this got me thinking...

Drummers really need a place where they can go 24x7 to get better,
faster - and without wading through a bunch of "stuff" that ultimately
only slows down their progress.

Anyone who's even the slightest bit interested in learning to play
needs to take a lesson from Paul.

So long story short... I told Paul, "You need to reach more people so
they can get the kinds of results I have - it's amazing!" Now of course
Paul loves to teach every bit as much as he loves to play - so... long
story short - Instant Drum Lessons was born!

So here's a few important things to know about IDL...

We're not one of those sites that has a studio drummer come in and
record some lessons with 12 different mics and cameras shooting at
every angel - that's only for show, and will not help you to get
better. It will only serve to make you more anxious to "watch" as other
people play, and actually - you'll probably play less yourself as a
result.

All our videos are shot with a simple HD flip cam (yeah, it's high def,
but we're not going to win any awards :) We shoot most our lessons on
the very kit Paul practices on, right at his house and at random times
of the day - so no studio lighting either, sorry.

If you're just looking to check out some high quality videos of other
people showing you how well they can play - so you can watch them over
and over again... then you're in the wrong place.

However...

If you're about watching a pro practice in a real environment and show
you the "first take" clip on how to play any drum piece. Then you'll be
very pleased!

If you're about wanting to get involved with a site that really cares
about your progress and will get on the phone with you to answer your
toughest drumming questions - or will take the time to respond to you
in the forums and in the members area... then you're good.

Or if you want to be part of a community that treats it's "I only play
when nobody's watching" members every bit as valuable as the recording
artists in it's member base... then yep, you're definitely going to
love it here!

Here's the deal...

We're just 2 regular guys who believe that everyone should play the
drums (or at least give them a try), and we're about seeing our members
excel.

If you're competitve... cool. If not, that's cool too. We run contests
and promotions for members of all levels.

So be sure to check out the main links above - we have a bit of free
content for you to check out - and then of course there's all the
member only stuff that you won't want to miss!

I hope to see you on one of our next monthly calls - you deserve this!

PJ is a great drummer and an informed and patient teacher.
I would recommend him highly. After several years of touring
extensively with him I still consider him a close friend... and that
says a ton!

PJ is a fine drummer, with a great deal of knowledge about many styles
of music. I think it's great that he's incorporating his many years of
teaching and playing experiences in InstantDrumLessons.
